Ami Super Confort from 1973
The Citroën Ami is a four-door, front-wheel drive economy ( B-segment) family car, manufactured and marketed by Citroën from 1961 to 1978. The Ami was offered in saloon and estate/wagon/break body styles over two generations, the Ami 6 and the Ami 8.

De Citroën Ami was presented as Ami 6 in '61 as a model to fill the gap between the 2CV and the DS. In 1969 the revised version was presented: the Citroën Ami 8. As Super, the Ami was available with a four-cylinder from the GS, but our photo model simply has the familiar 32 hp two-cylinder with Duck Roots under the hood.

Citroën. CITROEN AMI SUPER. 4-door 4-seater fastback saloon/estate. Citroën's idea of a Mini-Cooper style hot-rod, combining Ami 8's chassis and structure with flat-four engine from latest GS. Top speed of 88mph was much better than ordinary 8's 72mph, but still not in the sports saloon class.

Ultra-compact. Ami's ultra-compact size couldn't be any more practical when nipping in and out of gaps and when parking in cities. Taking up just half a parking space - it's just 2.41 m long, 1.39 m wide and 1.52 m high. Its tight 7.20 m turning circle allows Ami to perform quick and easy manoeuvres.

Based on the Ami 8, the Ami Super was probably the ultimate Q car - the recipe is very simple:- take one of the slowest cars on the road - albeit a car with exemplary handling and roadholding, rip out its two cylinder 602cm 3 engine and replace it with an engine with double the number of cylinders and nearly double the amount of power. Within a couple of years, the Ami 8 was the first of the A-series to gain luxuries as winding front door windows. It remained in production until replacement in 1978 with the Visa. In addition to the Service light commercial, the Ami 8 was used as the basis for the M35 Wankel rotary-engined prototype in two door coupé form and as the GS -powered Ami Super. In 1979, the Ami 8 was superceded by the Visa which had been launched the year before. Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1969, the Ami 8 was a face-lifted Ami.
